In this video, you get to meet Stroud Homes Auckland South builder Craig Shorrock, and hear why he decided to join the building franchise.
Video Transcript:
Craig: I started as a quantity surveyor in 1989. In 2000, I started my own building company. And we were building high-end architectural homes until we became known as recladding, after we recladed a couple of houses, and recladding became our core business for the last 13 years with over 200 reclads completed. Thought I could build my existing building company back into doing new homes, and market it, and become as popular as some of the other big building companies in Auckland.
I wasn’t interested, at first, in buying into a franchise, until I meet with James Stroud and had a look at what James has created, and the support, and the systems, and everything that is in place within Stroud Homes. There was no way that I was going to be able to create that, not in my working lifetime anyway.
So the systems that Stroud have in place are amazing. Right down from the pricing to the contracts to the onsite management, dealing with subcontractors. The strength and the support behind the franchise is absolutely fantastic. There’s support in head office for every aspect of the business, and there’s systems for everything.
Coming into Stroud Homes, there’s a lot of new software and technology, which I’m not used to. It’s been great. It’s brought everything into the 21st century. One of those apps that we use is a system called Voxer. You can send text, you can send voice messages, you can send photos, and you can send videos. It’s a great way to communicate with subcontractors, clients, and Stroud franchises.
We’ve got 30 other franchises on that. So there’s support there from every single builder. If you’ve got a question on a product, or on a supplier, or a subcontractor, you put a message out there, and you have 30 guys coming back with information and support. So moving forward, in a few years time, could be six months time, the goal is to have management in place running Stroud offices, hopefully three or four in the area.
My role will be overseeing the management of each of those offices, training, and spending half the working week with my family, or out fishing, or out racing my car. The goals are there, achievable to spend half as much time as what I have done for the last 10 years working. I can see my work week, over time, being half the time that it is now.
