Learn why you should choose Stroud Homes Franchise New Zealand to grow your family building business.

Ann Marie: Often it can be a difficult choice when starting your own business, whether to go out on your own or to join an already reputable brand. So I thought I’d sit down with James Stroud from Stroud Homes to find out exactly what sets his business apart from the rest. So, James, tell me how can Stroud Homes help me grow my family-building business?
James: Stroud Homes provides a service, Ann Marie, that helps builders grow their business and it’s around new homes. We’re focused on new homes. The important thing to know is that it’s a second-generation system. When I was starting out as a builder, you don’t really know what you’re gonna need to run your company. We’ve got an operations manual. It’s two binders about that thick, each one. We’ve got hundreds of plans. Each of those designs are priced inside of our pricing system, so there’s a bill of quantities for each one. We’ve got advertising material, a sizable website, all of that stuff you get the keys to that on Day 1.
We’ve had the opportunity to create a second-generation franchise set of systems and designs for builders. We actually have done the math, and there’s well over a million dollar’s worth of value there if you were to recreate that for your business. We’ve got this app that creates a community environment with the builders. You’ll find the builders communicating about little construction questions: What’s the easiest way to handle this gable on this design? The app allows you to send a video, send a photo, send a voice message, or send a text message. We want our builders to work together as part of a team that is effective as if they were all in one building.
Ann Marie: So, what’s the relationship like with Stroud Homes’ head office and its franchisees?
James: Our head office team consists of five people who spend a lot of their time helping the franchisees implement those systems into their business. You’ll probably be surprised at how busy it is. The phones are ringing with all sorts of questions and requests for assistance coming in all the time.
Ann Marie: So, talk me through your fee structure. How do I get paid and how does Stroud Homes get paid?
James: Okay, so you sign a contract with the client as the builder. We charge a fee when you put the slab down. Primarily, that’s all the charges that we have with you, outside of the start-up process. One thing that’s important to understand is that because of the systemisation in your business, you’re going to buy your products a lot better than what you’re buying them right now as an independent builder. We can put you in touch with builders that have found they’re buying their products 6% better than what they were buying before they signed up with Stroud. Suppliers find it much easier to get a computerised list of windows or whatever. It’s an organised system. And remember, it all comes back to the fact that head office doesn’t make any money unless our franchisees are laying slabs. So, we’re very focused on making sure that you are achieving that.
Ann Marie: Thanks, James. That really highlights what sets Stroud Homes apart from many other builders. I’m sure I’ll have plenty more questions and you’ll be the one to answer them.
James: Absolutely. Yeah, I look forward to answering questions.
